Free Thankful Cards to Share on Thanksgiving Day

Its hard to believe that in two weeks families across the United States will be sitting round their dinning tables feasting on Thanksgiving dinner. But Thanksgiving isn’t just about the food – it’s about gratitude. A common tradition is to go around the dinner table and ask each person to share what they are thankful. Growing up, my family used thankful cards so we could write down our thoughts and share them after dinner. Today, I’m sharing free printable thankful cards to use with your family.

Thankful cards can be as simple as an index card or sheet of paper. Or, if you want something a little more festive but inexpensive, just download my file and print at home.

How to Use Thankful Cards

The file includes 8″ x 10″ file with four cards in two designs. Each card is 5″ x 4″ so there is plenty of room to write the many things you are thankful for this year! When printing, be sure you select “Actual Size” and I recommend printing on card stock. Use the gray lines as guides for cutting.

When you hand them out to family and friends at the table, don’t forget to include writing utensils!

There are so many great ways to share the cards after they are completed.

You can set up a “Thankful Tree” and hang the cards from the branches. Or make a festive thankful card drop box and reach in to randomly select and read them at the table. Another fun way to share them is asking your guests to bring previous years’ cards back every Thanksgiving. That way, you can see how their lives have changed throughout the years.

Want something a little more exciting? Turn it into a game!

  • Ask each person to act out what they wrote on the card.
  • Have each person write about why they are thankful for a specific person without using their name and everyone else must guess who it is about.
  • Have everyone write the title of a poem or song that represents a moment they are grateful for experiencing, and then guess each other’s moment it represents.
  • Ask everyone to write something they are thankful for that most people wouldn’t think about. Then, read them aloud and have everyone guess who wrote it.

There are so many ways to have fun and share our gratitude. Please feel free to share your family’s gratitude traditions in the comments.

And Happy Two-weeks-til-Thanksgiving, everyone!
