Quick and Easy to Make Valentine’s Day Tic-Tac-Toe

I’m slowly putting together my Valentine’s Day tabletop tray decor. I’m happy with the progress, but it’s still missing a few pieces. Although I had a list of items I wanted to create for it, life just got in the way, and I needed to put something together that was quicker and easier than the crafts I had planned. Thus the Valentine’s Day tic-tac-toe board was imagined!

Valentine’s Day Tray Decor

As a full-time working mom, life can turn demanding fast. You know that saying, “When it rains, it pours.” Suddenly everyone and everything eats up your time, and there’s no time for yourself. But it also doesn’t do me good to say ‘no’ to me time. Crafting is my outlet. It’s my comfort zone and stress reliever.

Besides, you know what will happen if you give up your ‘me’ time for everyone else – it will become a habit. I don’t know about you, but I’m a Ms. Grumpy Pants if I don’t have some crafting time.

Even small simple craft projects like this Valentine’s Day Tic-Tac-Toe board can be enough to calm my anxiety from a rough week. It took me, maybe, 45 minutes in total. And most of that time was spent waiting for the paint to dry.

So, if you are looking for a quick crafting fix for the week, here’s an easy-to-make Valentine’s Day tic-tac-toe board.

Supplies:

  • 6x6x0.25 in. wood square
  • small wood letters ~ 1.3 in. tall
  • small wood hearts ~ 1.5 in. tall
  • craft glue
  • hot glue gun
  • jute string
  • pink, red, and white chalk paint
  • ruler
  • pencil

Make this Easy Valentine’s Day Tic-Tac-Toe Board

I already had every item on my supplies list left over from previous projects. (I love it when I can avoid the craft store because I always walk out with more than what is on my list. With inflation what it is these days, I’m penny-pinching more than usual.)

Anyways, I digress.

Let’s make this tic-tac-toe board!

First things first! Paint the wood square white. I used chalk paint because I used chalk paint for the other pieces on my decorative tray. Gotta keep it cohesive, right? Anyways, you are NOT limited to chalk paint – acrylic would work if it’s handy.

Set aside the white square to dry. Now, figure out what order you want your letters and hearts to take on your board. Do you want only to use hearts or the I-heart-u? Paint them pink and red based on the layout you chose. (Note: I had a mixed bag of wood hearts but I didn’t like the shade of pink and red, so I painted the natural wood hearts in the bag for this project.)

Next, use a ruler and pencil to mark a 1/3 on each side of the board.

Now it’s time to add your tic-tac-toe board lines with the jute string. Wrap the string around the board, carefully lining it up with your 1/3 marks. Hot glue the ends to the back. Repeat this process until you have all four tic-tac-toe lines on your board.

Once the hot glue has dried, it’s time to add your tic-tac-toe marks. Use the craft glue to glue down each of your letters and/or hearts into the squares based on the design you chose earlier.

My finished Valentine’s Day Tic-Tac-Toe board!

My tray is still missing a few pieces but this easy-to-make Valentine’s Day tic-tac-toe board was a great last-minute substitute for what I originally planned.
