July 4th is around the corner, and you know what that means: BBQ, fireworks, and lots of red, white, and blue! I’m sure your kids are just as impatient waiting for fireworks as mine. We usually attend our town’s July 4th festival at an open-air shopping center. There’s a lot of food, fun activities, ice cream…and heat. It is Houston, after all! After a while, our kids are too hot and tired to do much else. They want to get to the fireworks.
So, this year, I’ve created July 4th-themed word search and a scavenger hunt to keep my two occupied while waiting for the fireworks to begin.
You can download them in PDF format here.
Scavenger Hunt
The scavenger hunt is full of items found at any Independence Day celebration, whether a backyard cookout or town festival.
I plan to give my kids the scavenger hunt at the festival. As we walk around, they can be engaged in their surroundings as they look for each item on the list.
It will also help elevate some overwhelming sights and sounds by helping my kids focus on the hunt and filter out all the noise and activity around them.
Crossword Puzzle
As the sun sets, we make our way back to the car. From there, we wait for the fireworks to start. That’s when I’ll hand over the crossword puzzle. My kids can sit in the car and work on the crossword puzzle while we wait for the sun to finish setting.
The crossword puzzle is full of words associated with Independence Day. This puzzle will keep your kiddos searching for each word on the list forwards, backward, and diagonally.
Add a little a fun to your kids’ 4th of July celebration! Download these printable activities and send them off on their Independence Day adventure.
